zBoost Cell Phone Signal Boosters Keep Executives Connected During All-Day Conference

May 1, 2012 – Wi-Ex (www.wi-ex.com), a leading provider of consumer and commercial cell phone signal boosters, announced today that the fourth annual WIRED Business Conference: Disruptive by Design in partnership with MDC Partners is utilizing several zBoost by Wi-Ex cell phone signal boosters to provide the more than 400 thought-leaders in attendance with a reliable indoor cell phone signal.  The zBoost line allows consumers to take full advantage of data, voice and Internet services on their iPhones(TM), iPads(TM), connected devices and smartphones.

Held at the Museum of Jewish Heritage in New York City, the WIRED Business Conference is a one-day symposium featuring C-level executives and thought-leaders featuring groundbreaking discussions on disruptive business practices, ideas, and innovations. Spot On Networks installed the zBoost signal boosters for the symposium.

“The building is a cellular dead zone due to the building’s exterior construction – primarily the lead tinted windows.  Prior to the installation of the zBoost solution, the only way to make a phone call was to open a door and go outside of the building,” said William Howard, Vice President of Project Management for Spot On Networks.  “The addition of the zBoost allows for the attendees to stay connected to their offices during the event.”

The phone signal boosters were installed in several locations within the three-story building including the auditorium and conference rooms, the lunchroom, lobby area and reception area.

“Smartphones and tablets are an essential part of staying connected to the office, however a poor indoor cell phone signal can make this a challenge,” said Michael Cummiskey of Wi-Ex.  “With Spot On Networks help, we provided the attendees of the WIRED Business Conference with the ability to stay on top of emails, phone calls and texts, as well as Tweet the latest conference news all while still enjoying the conference.”

Benefits of using a zBoost cell phone signal booster include:

  • Increases indoor signal coverage
  • Supports multiple users simultaneously
  • Compatible with all U.S. carriers and mobile devices using 800 & 1900 MHz (except Nextel/iDEN or 4G, 2100MHz phones)
  • Increases voice and data transmission
  • Decreases dropped or missed calls
  • No cradle or connections to your phone
  • Extends phone battery life (uses less power when signal is stronger)
  • Protects the carrier network using patented technology

“Teleworking is quickly becoming a necessity in today’s workplace. From transportation challenges with the high cost of gas and long commutes to added flexibility and work life balance, employees and companies are embracing teleworking, but without the right tools teleworking can become a frustrating experience”

“Teleworking is quickly becoming a necessity in today’s workplace. From transportation challenges with the high cost of gas and long commutes to added flexibility and work life balance, employees and companies are embracing teleworking, but without the right tools teleworking can become a frustrating experience,” said Sharon Cuppett, vice president of marketing of Wi-Ex. “No one can afford to miss or drop more than 50% of their business calls. It’s why so many of use cell phones for business in the first place, but they HAVE to work – that means they need a strong signal and in 50% of the cases, they need an indoor signal booster like zBoost.”

The zBoost line allows users to take full advantage of data, voice and Internet services on their iPhones, BlackBerry, DROID, connected devices, smartphones and other mobile phones including 3G high-speed data and video, instant messaging, pictures and more – at home, in their personal workspace or in a corporate office, both in the U.S. and abroad.

State of Teleworking

Cell phone and smartphone owners are helping lead the growth of teleworking. The zBoost State of the Signal Survey found that 34 percent of employed online cell phone and smartphone owners’ telework and 22 percent of those online teleworkers expect their time teleworking to increase in the next 12 months due to increase in gas prices, changes in the economy and more flexible work situations.

Technology Helps Spur Teleworking Revolution

May 17, 2011

As gas prices go up, commutes seem to get longer and companies are looking to cut cost, teleworking becomes a more viable option for both employers and employees.

A recent survey from Skype, Future of Workplaces, revealed around 62% of the companies surveyed already allows employees to work remotely. Of these companies, 34% of their workforce occasionally works remotely, and of that 34%, remote employees say they spend around 40% of their work hours at home.

As the walls of traditional cubicles are torn down, teleworkers are changing the use of formal communication with new technology.

“In large part, social networking, simple collaboration and sharing tools, cloud-based storage services and touch-based tablets have entered the workplace in a bottom-up way, meaning that individuals started using these technologies for personal reasons, then insisted on using them for work as well.”

So what does all this mean for seemingly office mainstays? Data shows that email and landline use, the dominant communication tools for the past two decades, will begin steadily declining with the overwhelming use of texting, mobile phones, social networks, video communications and instant messaging/chat.

How has technology affected your working habits or protocol? Do you think the use of social media and video conferencing decreases or increases workplace camaraderie?  And do you think the new technology is a necessary tool or trending distraction?

Wi-Ex Launches New Commercial Solutions Division Kits

April 19, 2011

Wi-Ex announced today the launch of its new zBoost Commercial Solutions Division (CSD) Kits.   The zBoost CSD Kits provide a complete solution for improving cellular voice and data signal within buildings from 20,000 to 100,000 square feet.  The zBoost CSD Kits are designed to meet the needs of challenging indoor environments as an affordable and uncomplicated solution.

“The phenomenon of cord-cutting is growing quickly in the SMB, making in-building wireless coverage critical for day-to-day operations,” says Timothy Doherty, research analyst for SMB Mobility at IDC. “Thanks to the tremendous growth of individual-liable devices, the average small business depends on several different service providers utilizing different frequencies and technologies; thus, an ideal in-building coverage solution should be technology and device agnostic.”

The kits come in 20,000 and 40,000 square feet packages and provide the key components and design elements to allow professional installation over a wide variety of building conditions. The zBoost CSD kits use a network of active amplifiers and antennas configured to provide optimum signal strength for multiple cellular providers while protecting the integrity of the carrier network using patented technology.

“We hear from our customers every day the importance of a strong cell phone signal.  The zBoost solution helps property managers continue to offer ‘required services – such as a cell phone signal’ to their clients.  We have installed the zBoost products in commercial and residential high-rises in addition to buildings, like medical facilities that have deep interiors,” said Eytan Weiner, COO of Quantum Networks (www.quantum-wireless.com ).  “The zBoost CSD Kits provide installers with an affordable and proven solution for enhancing indoor cell signal for complex indoor environments.”

The Commercial Solution Division Process

The Wi-Ex Commercial Solution Division process provides a step-by-step program to ensure a successfully installed product including: installation survey consultation; site survey; proposal of zBoost CSD Kits; implementation; detailed equipment and schematic list; optimization; plus remote assistance from the Wi-Ex team of experienced wireless design professionals.

“Businesses and our authorized installers have clamored for these kits.  The rapid adoption of smartphones including iPhone and BlackBerry, tablets and other connected devices has caused a shift in the way businesses operate.  Recent reports site that more than 50 percent of cell phone calls are now made in-doors,” said Lloyd R. Meese, CEO of Wi-Ex.  “Our zBoost CSD Kits provide an affordable and effective solution to poor in-door cell phone signal in large spaces allowing users in those areas to stay connected and conduct business as needed.”

Consumers and Businesses Win with FCC Ruling on Cell Phone Signal Boosters

April 7, 2011

Wi-Ex, a leading provider of commercial and consumer cell phone signal boosters, announced today its support of the FCC’s Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) on cell phone signal boosters.

“Even when reading the introduction to this document, it is clear that the FCC has the consumer’s best interest in mind,” said Lloyd R. Meese, CEO of Wi-Ex. He continues, “Wi-Ex already complies with preventing interference with the carrier network. As a leader in cell phone signal boosters, we see firsthand the positive impact of cell phone signal boosters for consumers and businesses. We recognized from the beginning that oscillation could be an issue and developed patented technology as a solution to the problem. With hundreds of thousands of boosters already helping municipal, state and federal governments, military installations, security agencies, businesses, healthcare facilities and most importantly consumers, today’s NPRM is a win for consumers.”

The document starts – “We initiate this proceeding to facilitate the development and deployment of well-designed signal boosters, which hold great potential to empower consumers in rural and underserved areas to improve their wireless coverage in their homes, at their jobs, and when they travel by car, recreational vehicle, or boat.” It continues later, “The NPRM proposes a new regulatory framework authorizing individuals and entities to operate “consumer signal boosters” provided the devices comply with: (1) all applicable technical and radiofrequency (RF) exposure rules, and (2) a set of parameters aimed at preventing and controlling interference and rapidly resolving interference problems should they occur.”

The document also states: “The public interest is best served by ensuring that consumers have access to well-designed boosters that do not harm wireless networks.” The entire document can be found at http://hraunfoss.fcc.gov/edocs_public/index.do?document=305599

Poor in-door cell phone signal continues to frustrate today’s mobile consumer. According to the annual zBoost “State of the Cell Signal” Survey, commissioned by Wi-Ex and conducted by Harris Interactive®, nearly 70 percent (66 percent) of cell phone owners consider their cell phone their essential voice and/or data communication tool. The survey also found that 67 percent of cell owners experience problems with their cell phone signal at home including poor quality and 49 percent claim to have done something special to improve signal strength in order to make or receive a call in their home.

“The FCC has listened to consumers regarding the need for signal boosters. Our customers send us emails and tell us at consumer-directed tradeshows like MacWorld, how they love and can FINALLY use, their cell phones, iPhones and smartphones, now that they have a zBoost. I think the carriers are probably happy that their customers are happy, too,” says Sharon D. Cuppett, vice president of product management and marketing at Wi-Ex. She adds, “With a 25% or better churn and the number one reason being poor service, zBoost helps the carriers keep their current customers – I’m not releasing numbers, but many consumers use our product and have told us that they would have switched carriers and returned phones, even cool ones like the iPhone, without it. Below are just a couple of examples of happy consumers.”

Consumer Testimonials from zBoost Customers
“I am a glassblower in Wells, Vermont where cell service is pretty spotty. Clear reception is essential for running my business and nobody likes getting one of “those static cell phone calls. Even though the cell phone provider guaranteed me service at my house, I got no bars until I got my zBoost. After adding the zBoost, I went from 0-1 bars to getting full service. Anywhere I previously got 1 bar, I now get full bars. And many, many places where I didn’t have any service I can now make clear calls. Cell service is priceless and buying the zBoost was worth every penny and so much more. If you live in rural America, this is the product for you. It’s quite rare that I’m this ecstatic about a product. The zBoost is really, probably one of the best products I ever purchased.” – Jason

“I work in corporate communications, and I need to be available at a moment’s notice in situations, where there is news at work that has to be communicated to employees. I work from home on a regular basis, and it’s important to be available to my colleagues pretty much all the time. It was unbelievably frustrating when one of them would try to call me on my cell phone…half the time my phone wouldn’t ring at all, and then two hours later I would see that there was a new voice mail. The signal at my house was just terrible, and when I worked from home, I was on pins and needles that I might be missing an important call… (before I installed my zBoost) I had to go outside to get a signal – in snow, rain, and even hail. It was completely pathetic. I would come in from a call looking like a drowned rat. No more going outside in all kinds of weather to get a signal; no more missed calls from work; no more worrying about missing calls from work – the zBoost is fantastic for keeping me connected to work and for my peace of mind.” — Lauren M. in Denver

zBoost: Extending Cell Zones
There are several reasons why cell phone signal boosters like zBoost are an essential tool for today’s mobile lifestyle.
• With more than 50 percent of cell phone calls made in-doors, a reliable in-door cell phone signal is needed for consumers and businesses to stay connected.
• As more users take advantage of Internet, messaging and video on their cell phones and smartphones, the signal weakens for all of the users at the same time.
• With close to 30 percent of Americans without a landline, their cell phone or smartphone is their only phone.
• Boosters like the zBoost SOHO allows for multiple users with multiple carriers to enjoy the benefits of a strong cell phone signal simultaneously.

Recent studies found that 72 percent of small businesses use mobile apps in their operations and nearly 40 percent said it would be hard to survive if their mobile apps vanished. Combine this with statistics predicting that half of American’s will use a smartphone by the end of 2011 and it becomes clear that a strong cell signal is essential for consumers and business. The zBoost line allows users to take full advantage of data, voice and Internet services on their iPhones, BlackBerry, DROID, connected devices, smartphones and other mobile devices including 3G high-speed data and video, instant messaging, pictures and more – at home, in their personal workspace or in a corporate office, both in the U.S. and abroad.

March 29, 2011

Wi-Ex announced today that it is optimistic about the FCC’s upcoming ruling on cell phone signal boosters. The FCC has announced that this issue is on the April 7th Agenda.

“Based on recent news leaks and positive chatter at CTIA regarding an FCC ruling expected in early April, we are optimistic that the FCC will rule pro-consumer,” said Lloyd R. Meese, CEO of with Wi-Ex. “With hundreds of thousands of boosters already helping municipal, state and federal governments, military installations, security agencies, businesses, healthcare facilities and most importantly consumers, we are hoping that what we have heard is true. It would be a win for the consumers.”

The zBoost line allows users to take full advantage of data, voice and Internet services on their iPhones, BlackBerry, DROID, connected devices, smartphones and other mobile devices including 3G high-speed data and video, instant messaging, pictures and more – at home, in their personal workspace or in a corporate office, both in the U.S. and abroad.
