zBoost Rings in mCommerce

May 9, 2012

zBoost Keeps National Communications’ Client From Losing Largest Trade Show

New Orleans - Wi-Ex (www.wi-ex.com), a leading provider of consumer and commercial cell phone signal boosters, today announced at CTIA Wireless in booth #4050 a new case study “zBoost: Ringing in mCommerce” showcasing National Communications’ install at Western North Carolina Agricultural Center’s Davis Center.  National Communications, Inc.,  a full service Communications Contractor specializing in the design, project management, and installation of voice, data and fiber optic cabling projects, recently used zBoost Commercial Solution Division Kits to help WNC’s Davis Center help keep its largest combined trade show.

National Communications’ client WNC’s Davis Center had little to no indoor cell phone service.  The indoor cell phone signal was so poor inside the Davis Center that WNC was in danger of losing its largest combined trade show, The Land of Sky Knife and Gun Show.  The trade show exhibitors rely on their cell phones and smartphones to process credit cards and without a strong cell phone signal were unable to conduct business at shows.

“With mCommerce expected to reach $200 billion by 2012, a reliable cell phone signal is a quickly becoming a necessity for businesses,” said Michael Cummiskey of Wi-Ex.  “National Communications was able to successfully help WNC provide a strong cell phone signal to their clients and help them conduct transactions on the show floor and other business activities.”

Solution

National Communications installed zBoost Commercial Solutions Division Kits to improve the cell phone signal and allow the trade show vendors to successfully use their smartphones and cell phones for credit card transactions, as well as other business related needs.

“Installation of the zBoost saved WNC Agricultural Center’s largest combined trade show.  The Land of Sky Knife and Gun Show holds five sales per year in our newly renovated 45,000 square feet LEED certified Davis Expo Center,” said Matt Buchanan, WNC Agricultural Center Manager.  “With little to no cellular reception for credit card transactions and other business related needs, we were in danger of losing this event to another facility. Since the installation of the repeater system all I have heard are praises from both the promoter and vendors.”

The newest addition to the zBoost line, the zBoost 4G-V, provides consumers using Verizon LTE with an end to slow data and dropped calls allowing them to enjoy all of the benefits of their smartphones and other connected devices.

zBoost Cell Phone Signal Boosters Keep Executives Connected During All-Day Conference

May 1, 2012 – Wi-Ex (www.wi-ex.com), a leading provider of consumer and commercial cell phone signal boosters, announced today that the fourth annual WIRED Business Conference: Disruptive by Design in partnership with MDC Partners is utilizing several zBoost by Wi-Ex cell phone signal boosters to provide the more than 400 thought-leaders in attendance with a reliable indoor cell phone signal.  The zBoost line allows consumers to take full advantage of data, voice and Internet services on their iPhones(TM), iPads(TM), connected devices and smartphones.

Spot On Networks installed the zBoost signal boosters for the symposium.

“The building is a cellular dead zone due to the building’s exterior construction – primarily the lead tinted windows.  Prior to the installation of the zBoost solution, the only way to make a phone call was to open a door and go outside of the building,” said William Howard, Vice President of Project Management for Spot On Networks.  “The addition of the zBoost allows for the attendees to stay connected to their offices during the event.”

The phone signal boosters were installed in several locations within the three-story building including the auditorium and conference rooms, the lunchroom, lobby area and reception area.

“Smartphones and tablets are an essential part of staying connected to the office, however a poor indoor cell phone signal can make this a challenge,” said Michael Cummiskey of Wi-Ex.  “With Spot On Networks help, we provided the attendees of the WIRED Business Conference with the ability to stay on top of emails, phone calls and texts, as well as Tweet the latest conference news all while still enjoying the conference.”

Benefits of using a zBoost cell phone signal booster include:

  • Increases indoor signal coverage
  • Supports multiple users simultaneously
  • Compatible with all U.S. carriers and mobile devices using 800 & 1900 MHz (except Nextel/iDEN or 4G, 2100MHz phones)
  • Increases voice and data transmission
  • Decreases dropped or missed calls
  • No cradle or connections to your phone
  • Extends phone battery life (uses less power when signal is stronger)
  • Protects the carrier network using patented technology

zBoost: Featured on Daytime – Home Office Segment

October 26, 2011

The zBoost SOHO was featured on Daytime yesterday in a home office segment presented by Lifestyle expert Brian von Dedenroth.

Working from home is a great benefit but can be less than ideal if you don’t have a home office ready for business.  Key items to a well fitted home office is a dedicated area with plenty of work area and storage space. A window is definitely an asset and if it’s a quiet area, all the better.

At Wi-Ex we have had numerous customers call to say they have spent significant funds to set up a home office in their basement or some other area of their home only to find that they don’t receive cell service.  I had a similar experience when I set up my home office.  I have a room with a beautiful view of our backyard and was determined that my desk would be in front of that window.  Sounded great in theory, until I had to run outside to the driveway yelling, “Can you hear me now?” every time I made or received a call.  A zBoost SOHO was the next and one of the most important additions to my home office.

Please share any tips or products that have made your home office more productive.

Telework smoothes Washington commute after earthquake

August 25, 2011

Two large interruptions in one week will certainly be a test for teleworking on the East Coast.  First the very unexpected earthquake on Tuesday and now the much dreaded Hurricane Irene.  This article from the  Federal Times outlines how the Patent and Trademark Office is benefitting from teleworking when being in the office is just not possible.

By NICOLE BLAKE JOHNSON | Last Updated:August 24, 2011
When employees at the Patent and Trademark Office in Alexandria, Va., left their cubicles early after Tuesday’s 5.8-maginitude earthquake, their work went with them.

Apart from the evacuation process, little time was lost during the workday thanks to the agency’s robust telework program, Danette Campbell, senior adviser for telework, said at a FedScoop event Wednesday. “Once the announcement [to leave early] was made, those folks that were outside, who had their car keys, could go ahead and take off and go home — and continue to work.”

“If every agency approached telework the way Denette and PTO have done, you would see massive change,” Johnson said. “People are just now waking up to the full possibilities of telework.”

Is your company prepared to telework in case of an emergency?  There are many things to consider when setting up a telework plan but one of the most important is keeping your teleworker connected.  A zBoost cell phone signal booster may be needed if the teleworker’s home or home office is in a dead zone.

Connected Consumers

According to the annual zBoost State of the Signal Survey commissioned by Wi-Ex and conducted online by Harris Interactive in April 2011, 65 percent of online cell phone/smartphone owners experience problems with their cell phone or smartphone service including dropped calls or data, poor reception or dead zones in their home or poor signal reception or dead zones at work. In addition and important to iPhone and iPad users, 58 percent of online cell phone/smartphone owners who use data functions have experienced problems with service while using data functions including slow transmission of data (38 percent), poor signal/dead zone in home (23 percent) and poor signal/dead zone at work (20 percent.)

“Consumer reliance on iPhones, iPads and other smartphone and connected devices is increasing rapidly, making a strong cell phone signal indoors even more important. Who wants a device you can only use half the time because you don’t have a strong in-door signal,” added Cuppett. “We are constantly looking at the needs and digital lifestyles of our customers so we can provide them with a zBoost solution to fit their needs.”

Tablet Techie – It is estimated that nearly 70 million media tablets will be shipped in 2011 and they are being used as a personal device as well as an enterprise tool that enables users to stay on top of work after hours and during down time.

Smartphone Savvy – The smartphone is a staple in today’s hyperconnected world and by the end of 2011 it is expected that half of Americans will use a smartphone. A third of Americans use these digital Swiss Army knives to keep up with their schedules, check personal and work emails, the weather and stay connected on Facebook and Twitter.

iFamily – Today’s families are more connected than ever before with moms leading the adoption of smartphones to check weather, stay connected to the family and manage their schedules at home and on the go. Consumers and Businesses Win with FCC Ruling on Cell Phone Signal Boosters

April 7, 2011

Wi-Ex, a leading provider of commercial and consumer cell phone signal boosters, announced today its support of the FCC’s Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) on cell phone signal boosters.

“Even when reading the introduction to this document, it is clear that the FCC has the consumer’s best interest in mind,” said Lloyd R. Meese, CEO of Wi-Ex. He continues, “Wi-Ex already complies with preventing interference with the carrier network. As a leader in cell phone signal boosters, we see firsthand the positive impact of cell phone signal boosters for consumers and businesses. We recognized from the beginning that oscillation could be an issue and developed patented technology as a solution to the problem. With hundreds of thousands of boosters already helping municipal, state and federal governments, military installations, security agencies, businesses, healthcare facilities and most importantly consumers, today’s NPRM is a win for consumers.”

The document starts – “We initiate this proceeding to facilitate the development and deployment of well-designed signal boosters, which hold great potential to empower consumers in rural and underserved areas to improve their wireless coverage in their homes, at their jobs, and when they travel by car, recreational vehicle, or boat.” It continues later, “The NPRM proposes a new regulatory framework authorizing individuals and entities to operate “consumer signal boosters” provided the devices comply with: (1) all applicable technical and radiofrequency (RF) exposure rules, and (2) a set of parameters aimed at preventing and controlling interference and rapidly resolving interference problems should they occur.”

The document also states: “The public interest is best served by ensuring that consumers have access to well-designed boosters that do not harm wireless networks.” The entire document can be found at http://hraunfoss.fcc.gov/edocs_public/index.do?document=305599

Poor in-door cell phone signal continues to frustrate today’s mobile consumer. According to the annual zBoost “State of the Cell Signal” Survey, commissioned by Wi-Ex and conducted by Harris Interactive®, nearly 70 percent (66 percent) of cell phone owners consider their cell phone their essential voice and/or data communication tool. The survey also found that 67 percent of cell owners experience problems with their cell phone signal at home including poor quality and 49 percent claim to have done something special to improve signal strength in order to make or receive a call in their home.

“The FCC has listened to consumers regarding the need for signal boosters. Our customers send us emails and tell us at consumer-directed tradeshows like MacWorld, how they love and can FINALLY use, their cell phones, iPhones and smartphones, now that they have a zBoost. I think the carriers are probably happy that their customers are happy, too,” says Sharon D. Cuppett, vice president of product management and marketing at Wi-Ex. She adds, “With a 25% or better churn and the number one reason being poor service, zBoost helps the carriers keep their current customers – I’m not releasing numbers, but many consumers use our product and have told us that they would have switched carriers and returned phones, even cool ones like the iPhone, without it. Below are just a couple of examples of happy consumers.”

Consumer Testimonials from zBoost Customers
“I am a glassblower in Wells, Vermont where cell service is pretty spotty. Clear reception is essential for running my business and nobody likes getting one of “those static cell phone calls. Even though the cell phone provider guaranteed me service at my house, I got no bars until I got my zBoost. After adding the zBoost, I went from 0-1 bars to getting full service. Anywhere I previously got 1 bar, I now get full bars. And many, many places where I didn’t have any service I can now make clear calls. Cell service is priceless and buying the zBoost was worth every penny and so much more. If you live in rural America, this is the product for you. It’s quite rare that I’m this ecstatic about a product. The zBoost is really, probably one of the best products I ever purchased.” – Jason

“I work in corporate communications, and I need to be available at a moment’s notice in situations, where there is news at work that has to be communicated to employees. I work from home on a regular basis, and it’s important to be available to my colleagues pretty much all the time. It was unbelievably frustrating when one of them would try to call me on my cell phone…half the time my phone wouldn’t ring at all, and then two hours later I would see that there was a new voice mail. The signal at my house was just terrible, and when I worked from home, I was on pins and needles that I might be missing an important call… (before I installed my zBoost) I had to go outside to get a signal – in snow, rain, and even hail. It was completely pathetic. I would come in from a call looking like a drowned rat. No more going outside in all kinds of weather to get a signal; no more missed calls from work; no more worrying about missing calls from work – the zBoost is fantastic for keeping me connected to work and for my peace of mind.” — Lauren M. in Denver

zBoost: Extending Cell Zones
There are several reasons why cell phone signal boosters like zBoost are an essential tool for today’s mobile lifestyle.
• With more than 50 percent of cell phone calls made in-doors, a reliable in-door cell phone signal is needed for consumers and businesses to stay connected.
• As more users take advantage of Internet, messaging and video on their cell phones and smartphones, the signal weakens for all of the users at the same time.
• With close to 30 percent of Americans without a landline, their cell phone or smartphone is their only phone.
• Boosters like the zBoost SOHO allows for multiple users with multiple carriers to enjoy the benefits of a strong cell phone signal simultaneously.

Recent studies found that 72 percent of small businesses use mobile apps in their operations and nearly 40 percent said it would be hard to survive if their mobile apps vanished. Combine this with statistics predicting that half of American’s will use a smartphone by the end of 2011 and it becomes clear that a strong cell signal is essential for consumers and business. The zBoost line allows users to take full advantage of data, voice and Internet services on their iPhones, BlackBerry, DROID, connected devices, smartphones and other mobile devices including 3G high-speed data and video, instant messaging, pictures and more – at home, in their personal workspace or in a corporate office, both in the U.S. and abroad.
